Abstracting Reality

blog_07a_feb_2013I’ve been tinkering with creating fractal images again.  It’s been a while since I fussed with them as they are always a bit unpredictable and somewhat of a mind bending exercise – (Physics being my least favourite subject of all time!!).  This time though I have had a go at compositing them with some of my photographs and seeing what I could cook up.

The top image is a fractal combined with one of my BW Architectural images shot here in Charlotte.

blog_07b_feb_2013And this one was created using an image of the snowy white sand dunes photographed at Lancelin, north of Perth (Australia).

blog_07c_feb_2013These being the “before” images – both BW.

And FYI, there are NO textures added to these images.  Just a bunch of adjustment layers for contrast, curves, tone, hue and saturation and in the case of the Sand Dunes and monster dose of sharpening!  Which is a fun creative tool in and of itself!  And of course the fractal layer which is what brings the fabulous color, shapes and lines.

Enjoy!

Bren - amazing visuals! Can hardly believe what you were able to do, seeing the before and after images, stunning!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - fascinating

Many Splendid Layers

Playing with some different environments for my lovely lady and her wonderful dress.  This time I’ve tucked her in the mountains of Slovenia amid the autumn leaves of the forrest near my Mum’s in Germany.  Textures added by way of various bits of cement from NYC and thereabouts…. and plenty of pixel pushing as well!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - Beautifully dramatic

Stream Of (Visual) Thought on a Friday Night

blog_01_feb_2014

1: BW Portrait, snapped at the Floating Market in Bangkok
2: Flower reflections, Creative Lounge NC
3: A friend from the back garden, Cornelius NC
4: Poppies of Germany (painted)

If you can’t pick what to post on a Friday night, why not post ALL the images that are floating around inside one’s head???

I don’t think I will ever be able to fit comfortably into one single sort of box – art or photography wise – or really in any other facet of my life!!!!

I love the candid shot, snapped on the street and it’s wonderful serendipity.
I love being able to control my camera to take the picture that I want.
I love the magic of a long lens and the intimacy it affords me in sharing with the wonderful lake wildlife.
I love being able to take the boring and banal and transforming it into a visual feast in Photoshop.

OK …… you can call me greedy,  lacking focus …. or perhaps just “creative” in THE moment.
Thirstily grabbing each one of them as they come along!

Which box do you fit in?  Or are you making your own open faced corral, just like me?

Alison - What a fabulous box of tricks to start our day. OXOX M

joanne thieme huffman - I can’t even find a box. I’m loving all these photos.

Jean Hutter - Great photos all so different and all great!!!! No box or fences for me either. Sometimes I feel I lack direction or even a certain look that makes my work look like I did it but I just want to enjoy creating and learning!!

Vicki in Michigan - I don’t fit in just one box, either! Not even in a big “photograpghy/photoshop” box. 🙂
