New Workshop News – Digital Painting & Photography in Languedoc, France

blog_12_dec_2013

I’m super excited to announce a fabulous new workshop to be held in the first week of June 2014 in the glorious region of Languedoc, France,  where I will be teaming up with the talented Digital Painter, Karen Burns to host a week long Photography, Photoshop and Digital Painting event.
During the week we will be exploring in and around the town of Durfort, taking in the sights and enjoying the many Medieval towns and their attractions nearby.  There will be ample time for guided field photography followed by instruction on how to process your images in Lightroom or ACR.  We will then get creative and use Photoshop and Corel Painter to turn your wonderful photographs into stunning painterly works, demonstrating the use of brushes, textures, compositing techniques and much more…

The week long “retreat” will include accommodation in a wonderfully renovated 17thC  French farmhouse, and include meals and wine, all prepared and selected by our personal chef.

Excited at the thought?  So are we!

There will only be 8 places available in this workshop. Full details and complete syllabus will follow but if you are interested then I suggest you email me or Karen asap to register your interest.

J’espère que vous pourrez nous rejoindre!!!

Karen Burns - this is going to be amazing ~

Bren - Congratulations Marie! Sounds like an amazing workshop, team and the venue, Wow!

Creative Composites

Messing around with some of my model shots from the weekend in Atlanta and making use of the body art that so many of the girls/women seem to sport these days.

Rather than clone out the body art, I chose to make it a feature in this image to tell the story and added a background that I felt matched the mood/sentiment portrayed on the model’s arm.

I rather like the wording too – “Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you”…

Joanne Thieme Huffman - beautifully dramatic.

Pretty Women

blog_8_dec_2013

A successful jaunt to Atlanta.  Some business at the British Consulate taken care of, a spot of sight-seeing, riding the Sky View and taking in a fine dinner at BLT.  Followed by a day of photography at the American Photo Model event.  It was a little different from the one that I attended last year in NYC.  Smaller venue and in a hotel but no less fun and probably a little more one on one excitement in terms of some of the experiments that we played with – like lighting models with Christmas Lights (see last image in the set).

Can’t say that I want to be a glamour or fashion photographer when I grow up – but #2 Son does, so this event really floated his boat and it was nice to see him in his element.  I really enjoyed learning more about lighting, posing and just exploring “possibilities” and doing something different!

Hats off to the models too, they were really well made up, loads of costume changes and ever patient in the face of dozens of lenses pointing at them constantly!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - Beautiful shots.

Off Out and About

Piran, Slovenia

Leaving you with a little architectural loveliness tonight.  Snapped at Piran Harbour in Slovenia a short while back.

Off tomorrow to head to Atlanta to take pix at the American Photo Model Shoot with #2 Son.  He is very big into the glamour and model thing and it will be a good adventure for him and help to build his portfolio for college.  I attended this event last year in NYC and had a ball, so hope that it’s just as much fun in Atlanta.

Someone commented recently on my FB page that they did not know that I did “people or portraits” …..  I guess at this particular juncture I’d have to say that I like to “shoot” (photograph) anything.  Sports, landscapes, architecture, portraits, still life’s and so on.

Right now it’s all one great big camera adventure and I really like pushing the boundaries of the lens in a variety of situations.  It does NOT make for a great “co-cohesive look” or style – which is what you are supposed to develop, so I guess I am never going to be famous for taking moody or ethereal or any kind of same style image.

All I know is that I am learning how to get the camera to do it’s best in any given situation and right now, that is fine by me……..

Carpe Diem and take the picture!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - Eclectic is a style.

Chris - No one — no one! travels more than you do!!

A Little Photoshop Painting

“Pan Flute Fairy”

I had all great intentions of going to bed early but after tossing and turning for a good while decided to get up and let the creative juices flow where they may …..

Ergo a digital painting of one of the Renaissance Fair characters, the Pan Flute Fairy.

Nice to let loose and push a few pixels around!

Postings might be a bit few and far between in the bloggy department as #1 son is now Home too and I am in full “Mama” mode again.  Cherishing every moment that I have with them.

Joanne Thieme Huffman - What fun! Also, enjoy your time with your son.
