Monochrome Moments

blog_24_feb_2014

An appallingly badly organized model shoot led DH and I back to Stonewall Jackson’s derelict buildings to find at least “something” to photograph for the day out.  They are very leery of photographers and cop cars in constant surveillance.  I hear constantly from other photographers that they get chased off the site, not quite sure why we are so lucky….

And since I have Black and White on my brain, they are all post processed so….

I’ll take fusty old architecture over too made up models any-day…. so the day ended on a high note!

Alison - The fusty old architecture an time for me. OXOX M

joanne thieme huffman - So cool.

The Lightness of Being

blog_21_feb_2014I woke  up this morning to a balmy 65F, the sun streaming through the kitchen window and as I made my first “cuppa” for the day, all I could see was the light shinning on my lovely Trader Joe’s Gerberas.  They’ve long been a favoured flower of mine.  I carried a bunch when I was married (remember Mum?), and their intricacy and color amazes me to this day – so out came the camera for a few happy snappies!

A good day all round really, the weather warmed up to 77F, I even stripped of the winter sweater, my Meetup group filled the Studio this evening with lots of fun, bright ideas and exchanging of skills ….. AND I found out this afternoon that I have been picked out of more than 50+ applicants to be one of the new online instructors for the Photographic Society of America!!!!  So I am dead chuffed about that!

I do so love sun shiny days!!

Oh and in case you are interested, I still have a few spots open for my Black and White Magic, Online Workshop.  It’s almost full, nearly but not quite.

Alison - Fantastic I am so thrilled for you.Yes I remember the day and the flowers well.Gerberas in German are lovely they prefer the cooler climate here, and last ages as a cut flower. OXOX M

Joanne Thieme Huffman - A beautifully energetic and happy photo for a very dreary winter morning. I’m looking forward to the black and white class.

Bren - Congratulations! So pleased for you.
And love that Gerber, my daughter’s favourite flower 🙂
We’re still buried in snow here, enjoy the sunshine!

gotham girl - Congrats! They are so lucky to have your talents! Now I can say…I knew her when…ha ha!

Painting Model Faces

blog_20_feb_2014Yesterday I had the opportunity to photograph Lori, a super fun model.  I’ve photographed her now a few times, she was the fab model for the Cirque Valentine shoot and as always she has a great personae and wonderful expressions that the camera just loves!

As always I love to play with the in camera shot and then do something creative, so I painted her a bit.  Somewhat urban grunge, renaissance look which I like.

The post processing of the shoot has been cathartic, at odds today with an ATnT  frustrated day, waiting through a 6 hour window to get my internet back and working.  It rather stuck a needle in the haystack as I was trying to upload files for my upcoming BW workshop!!!

On the upside, my Photography workshop in France with Karen Burns is almost full.  If you were standing on the fence, then now is the time to jump!

joanne thieme huffman - both views are beautiful.
