Painterly Play

blog_12_nov2013

A bit of fussing about with a few thousand images today.  Lots of muddy shots – as in Spartan Race pics,  and then backwards to Ljubljana, half an ear on a Creative Live presentation with Jeremy Sutton on Painter X3 – inspired me to get my Mixer Brush tool out in Photoshop.  I have Painter,  and it’s a very big fat nice program that I probably open four times a year…. because the Photoshop nerd that I am, thinks that there is plenty to be done at home (in Photoshop) which means with a little creativity and know how you are minus forking out 400+ bucks to get Corel.  Particularly if you are well versed in brush creation and brush presets in Photoshop.

Anyway, no matter.  I dickered about with this image.  A slew of Japanese tourists outside the Cathedral in Ljubljana.   All pointing north towards their erstwhile guide, brollies ahoy.

In all fairness, I should thank Mr Sutton for his inspiration to rev up the Mixer Brush … Perhaps time for Pixels and Paint V2?

joanne thieme huffman - Love it. Inspires me to break out my notes from your online class and get cracking.

Meetup Magic

blog_11a_nov2013

I joined up with my favourite local Meetup group this afternoon for a few hours of shooting pix and messing around.  It’s always a pretty serendipitous arrangement.  You never know what models will be there or what antics the “organizer” people have in mind, what costumes, lighting or sets will be found and I guess that is part of the fun.  It’s always pretty busy too and you rather have to put your biggest foot forward to get a look in …

It also provided a welcome relief from a morning of house hunting.  I think we’ve peeked at 50 odd properties so far.  Plenty you could live in, some better than others but none that really tick all the boxes, for various reasons.  It would be kind of handy if the right house would jump out and say, “pick ME!”!

So a tad tired this evening after running after mud runners yesterday and running after my realtor today …. and a few hours pottering around the layers of Photoshop, a welcome distraction….

…. messing with one of the models that I shot this afternoon and some German sunflower fields from Monzelfeld.  Not sure if I am totally happy with the final result but the concept is there in my head and will no doubt morph a bit more…

joannethiemehuffman - You certainly get great photos from your local Meet Ups.

Mud and Mayhem – Spartan Race Style

blog_09a_nov2013
A days jaunt out to South Carolina today to check out another Spartan Beast Race and scope out the opportunities for some Mud and Mayhem shots!  If anything this was better than the one I saw in Virginia earlier this year.  The terrain was a lot more walkable, lots more obstacles  and if anything, the organizers were even MORE camera friendly than last time, meaning you could just about put yourself (and your camera) anywhere and not be shoo’ed away … proof being in my mud sodden hair, clothes and camera!

We also lucked out (or in, depending on your language) and teamed up with another photographer, who just happened to be the daughter of the owner of the Carolina Adventure World Park, where the event was being hosted, and crawled about in her ATV and got to access all manner of spots that would have been tough to find otherwise (Thank You Terrie!!).

Karen Burns - amazing shots, marie ~ fabulous work on these

gotham girl - Awesome! Everything about this!

Mary Bailey - Great shots, Marie! But I’m just as glad you did not include this event in your b&w workshop 🙂

joannethiemehuffman - Great photos.

Austin - Do you have more pics? One photographer took PLENTY of shots of me while doing one of the harder obstacles. It was the tree trunks and flipping them 8 times. Any photos of that?

Just sharing a little color with you tonight, too good to leave buried in the archives.

The success of my recent workshop here in Charlotte has had me thinking about doing a few more Photography workshops.  I am exploring venues in NYC, Paris and Slovenia, so stay tuned!

gotham girl - Well thank god you didn’t keep these beauties in the archives. Just breathtaking Marie. Just breathtaking.

Bren - Oh my gosh! glorious photos.
Congrats on the successes you’ve had and lots more to come

Creative Camera Play

blog_06_nov2013

I had some fun today, dickering about with the settings  on my camera. Shooting multiple exposures and then applying  minimal editing to get where I wanted to be.  The initial SOOC images are at the bottom of the post.  I shot between 2 and 9 exposures of each image at various positions and speeds.  My 5D MK3 will combine the multiple exposures as one unified JPG and gives a decent enough result.  A little post production Photoshoppery never hurts but realistically these are pretty much  creative camera captures and very little editing to get the final result.!  Amazing when you think about it!

joanne thieme huffman - lovely

gotham girl - Thanks for sharing your FUN! Indeed!
