… And then some color – Life Lakely V8

blog_05_nov2013

Yesterday after the Workshop finished, Karen and Mary  joined me back at home for a quick visit, in time to snap some of the evening splendor of Lake Norman.  Karen and Mary were two of my very first online workshop students and I am happy to have had them with me along for the merry ride in every class since then.

It was especially lovely to meet them in person, share some time together and close our weekend by spending a little more time with our cameras to capture some precious images of the lake in all it’s fall colored glory.

And no one sunset is ever like the other!  The bottom image was shot last night (Sunday), with Karen and Mary and the top shot, caught tonight, looking to the left and catching my neighbor’s dock in silhouette.

Sharon Furner - What a wonderful closing to a beautiful weekend, in an equally beautiful part of North Carolina. Your setting is exquisite.

Karen Burns - Wonderful colors here, Marie ~ thank you again for a fabulous weekend.

Joanne Thieme Huffman - Such beautiful rich colors!

gotham girl - That’s worth the class! Well…almost. 🙂 Stunning!

A Few More Workshop Black and Whites

blog_04_nov2013

Two days of Photography and Photoshop fun.  Chasing around Charlotte City Center, catching the light, taking and making some great Black and Whites.  I had a great group of students and could not have been happier with how the weekend went.

Sharon Furner - What marvelous compositions. Your processing is impeccable. I will always remember the symmetry of the Charlotte skyline.

gotham girl - Amazing!

Charlotte in Black and White – snippets from today’s workshop

blog_02_nov_2013

Day One of my Black and White Fine Art Creative Workshop in Charlotte has drawn to a close.  What a fun day!  We were spoiled with perfect weather, great light and I have a fabulous group to work with.

We have had some adventures along the way, including being threatened with Police intervention for snapping pics at the top of a high-rise car park  – which was open to the public, but only for parking cars apparently, NOT for taking pics of architecture – as that constitutes a threat to national security, apparently (ugh!).  Been yelled at for taking pictures on the train tracks – OK a tad risky, but we were watching out for trains!
Caught candid shots of the morning after the night before guy barfing out of his truck.  Been requisitioned as on the spot family photographers with the insistence that we EMAIL the pics, thank you very much! … OK no probs!
Encountered some reversely minded and very helpful people who gave us special access to some high rise spots – which proved to be better than the car park and they even allowed us to come back after dark (shhhhhh… don’t tell anyone) to take more shots of the buildings at night – see the stellar BOA building above!

Much photoshoppery and boggled minds at all the ways you can create a Black and White image ….. and a tasty dinner for the group to boot!

Small hiccup in that racing to catch a lift I have snapped a muscle in my right calf and walking is now a bit of a grimace faced chore – but other than that, I could not be happier with our day – and a big thanks to DH for being a great Marshall and shepherding us around in a timely fashion and curing the odd glitch, like leaving my laptop charger at home 🙂

Looking forward to seeing what Mono Magic we can cook up tomorrow.

joanne thieme huffman - It looks and sounds delightful.

Bren - The adventures you get up to! Never thought about how one might take all that photo taking, the world has changed that’s for sure.

These B&W are perfection, love the patterns you captured, shadow and light, just wonderful

Alison - I just knew you would have fun. OXOX M

Karen Burns - A great day it was!! Many thanks for the “walkabout”, the PS lessons, the food and the hospitality ~ and thank your DH, too 🙂

Slovenian Color

blog_31_oct_2013

Probably the last time I will bore you with images from Slovenia but these two images rank among the favourites that I shot whilst I was there and bear a little sharing (I hope).

The one of the Castle snapped seconds before dark hit, tripod, long exposure to catch the light and I was ankle deep in mud and only a head torch to see what the heck my camera was set on.

The view of Lake Bled, which is as gorgeous by day as it is by PRE sunrise was taken at about 5am – who knew I could get up that early!!  Usually it’s just shy of my bedtime!  However the 3 hours of sleep were worth the early rise and although there was no mist, which was what was expected, I like the clean and crisp lake regardless …. almost like the view across from my living room, minus the castle ……
I wonder if the neighbor across the water might oblige with a bit of rebuilding?

Bren - Never bored with seeing all these wonderful places, the photos are simply stunning, the fall colours in that first one are amazing, the way you framed it up, perfection

Joanne Thieme Huffman - I’m never bored with beautiful pictures.

gotham girl - Wow. These made my heart skip a beat. So worth getting up early. We’re happy you did!
