A Last European Note For Now

blog_17_jun_2014Well, my bags are packed and an early start back from the banks of the Mosel tomorrow morning, heading up to Frankfurt Airport to wend my way back to Charlotte, NC.

I’ll end my European sejour at the beginning…. where nearly three weeks ago, Karen Burns and myself stepped of our plane in Toulouse and began what has been quite the magical adventure, resplendent with turquoise shutters, climbing roses, weathered walls and grand company, not to mention copious amounts of wine and did I mention good company?

Our first “Dynamic Duo” teaching adventure has turned out to be a wonderful success and one that we are eager to repeat in September 2015.
So stay tuned over the next couple of weeks while we fine tune the details and then we will open for registration for next year’s workshop in France.

…. putting myself in Airplane mode and will catch you when I get back over the pond…….. Ciao!!!!

Karen Burns - Safe Travels 🙂

joanne thieme huffman - Such beautiful shots of beautiful scenes. Travel safely and enjoy being home.

Happy Mosel Day

blog_16_jun_2014I jumped in the Mother’s motor today with the notion of tripping to Trier to take some pictures of the fabulous city and cathedral there…. little did I know that I would be stymied by “Happy Mosel” Day, where many of the roads along the Mosel River are given over to foot, bike and rollerblade traffic and cars just have to stay home – no way to get anywhere ….

After meeting roadblock after roadblock I finally called it quits and spent the day walking around Bernkastel and just taking my time and enjoying the sunny day, scenery and wonderful light….

This Pano shot of Bernkastel and the Mosel River gives you an idea of the magnificence of the hills and vineyards that abound.  The full pano shot is twice as long as this and super super wide but the bloggy format does not really do it justice, so this is the cropped version….

Photoshop did not stitch it quite right so I ended up merging the images myself… sometimes the Auto features are not that posh!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - I like the idea of cars having the day off.

German Style

blog_14_jun_2014My mother lives barely a few minutes away from the picturesque town of Bernkastel-Kues on the Mosel River.

It’s quite the idyllic spot and  super super full of tourists during the warm sunny months.  Over the winter there was a town edict to repaint and primp all the old buildings in the village and so everything is looking pretty spiffy right now.  Bright and colorful indeed!!  I love, love, love this little town!!

... and as a footnote, I can’t even believe that I caught this shot, there must have been a nanosecond where the Town Square was not filled with people milling about!!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - You’re right about it looking very spiffy.

A Super Sunset

blog_13_jun_2014I umm’ed and ahh’ed about going for yet another walk tonight around sunset – he weather was much cooler and it was tempting to stay inside.  I’m glad however that I didn’t.  Even though I did not take my tripod, I managed to shoot some hand held HDR shots of the evening sky with the village in silhouette. The vista literally morphed from blah to “blimey” in a matter of minutes!  With a veritable painter’s palette of colors rendered across the viewfinder’s canvas.

I really really love the time just after the sun sets and the sky is still warm and the cooler colors start lifting up through the atmosphere….

New Moon Over Monzelfeld

blog_11_jun_2014It’s lovely to be back in Monzelfeld, Germany, with my Mother and Wolfe….  a different time of year than I usually visit.  The fields and trees are splendid green, mixed with the mauve, yellow and blue hues of early Summer flowers…. lupins, buttercups, tiny daisies and wild artichokes…..

Their ‘hound’, a Japanese Spitz, is always fond of my visits as it means long meanders up through the farm lands and little lanes to work off dinner and enjoy the cooler night air….usually I take my camera but tonight I forgot and had to rely on my iPhone to capture this image of the new moon rising over the hill.  I think the moon is  “FULL” so tomorrow night I will definitely have camera in hand…though the sunset and “blue” hour is late here, nearly 10pm.  It feels odd to be walking at that time of day…. but what the heck…

joanne thieme huffman - I love living in the 21st century and being able to take photos with my phone.
