Carcassonne, France

blog_15_july2014Just for a change of pace, a Photograph …… snapped whilst on my last  workshop in France with Karen Burns.  We had some fun times in this city, a great lunch and then scooting about for pictures.  A few wrong turns out to capture some landscape shots had us at sixes and sevens but in fact proved to be a good learning curve for next time….

joanne thieme huffman - Lovely photo.

gotham girl aka Robin - Absolutely love how you captured the layers of interest! Beautiful!!

Painted Ladies of Carcassonne

blog_09_july2014On one of the days my friend Karen Burns and I were traipsing around Carcassonne, France, I spied these three women sitting happily at the side of the street chatting to each other.  The candid shot of community and friendship rather spoke to me.  It’s a nice photo but works pretty well as a painting too!  Painted with Corel Painter X3 and Photoshop CC.

Alison - Love it,i can just see these 3 ladies in another place.OXOX M

gotham girl - So perfect! I love Carcassonne!!

Sunflower Love

blog_06_july2014DH and I headed back to the Sunflower Fields again today.  Oh what a difference a week makes……

Acres and acres of the golden flowery blooms…. snapped around 8pm in the evening.

I’d love to be there early in the morning, with the light in the other direction …. just to see what it would look like!  For somehow I’d always thought that Sunflowers turned their heads to seek the light…. which did NOT prove to be the case …. perhaps these were just lazy ones? … no matter they were well pretty all the same!

Alison - Happy sunflower faces, they do follow the sunlight in Esperance.

joanne thieme huffman - Beautiful photos! The sunflowers I saw in Italy followed the sun.

gotham girl - Every time I see a field of sunflowers it just makes me so happy! Love these and thanks for sharing!

Tera - Hadn’t had the chance to stop in in awhile – as usual, lovely photos and photoplay, and a bit of living vicariously through your travels 🙂 Love the pics of France and Germany!!! – some I have even been to myself when the hubby and I were stationed in Germany.

Henry River Mill Village, NC

Today DH took to the mountains in search of cooler air and some local 4th of July festivities.

We were not disappointed.  A balmy 76F up there on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 4th of July Parade seen in Boone, an Artist’s Market visited in Banner Elk and then a pretty hike up to Lineville Falls.

And although there were a number of pix snapped during the day, my favourite ones were those taken on the way home when we stopped at Henry River Mill Village, an old abandoned textile town – most recently famed as the location for a Hunger Games movie shoot.
There are No Trespassing signs posted all over the place but mostly to prevent people from entering the ruined houses, which are precarious at best and you can get a goodly amount of pictures of the old houses without “trespassing”!

blog_05_july2014I’m probably one of the few women who will consider a wonderful day out capped off by traipsing round broken down buildings…. but yeah! …. it rather does float my boat….!

gotham girl - Well add me to that list of “few!” Love!

terry rowe - Love the old abandoned buildings – it would have been the highlight of my day too…

Joanne Thieme Huffman - There is always something interesting about images of decay and abandonment.
