Horsing Around in Blowing Rock, NC

blog_27_july2014When it’s hot, humid and toasty in Charlotte, the best place to be is up in the mountains …. and next best to ballerinas, I DO love photographing horses!!  And particularly the challenge of capturing them on the move… which I happily did at the Blowing Rock Hunter’s and Jumper’s Show today.

I have figured out one thing though, it’s easier to photograph grey and white horses rather than the darker ones…. they don’t mess up your metering so much and it’s easier to get a decent overall exposure…. just in case you were thinking of which color horse to buy next……

joanne thieme huffman - Great shots.

Portrait of a Ballerina

blog_23_july2014A fabulous few days in NYC, visiting old haunts, catching up with the local scenery and generally immersing myself in the mayhem that only the Big Apple can bring…..

Included in my few days away was an opportunity to shoot with my favourite Model, Viktoria.  Her elegance and grace never fail to disappoint and marvelous images  are born through her patience and willingness to experiment.

Photographers often speak of their “Muse” and I guess for me, Viktoria would be it.  I’d pop her in front of my camera lens any day…

joanne thieme huffman - These are lovely. I can see why she is your favorite model.

Alison - Poetry in motion. OXOX M

Majesty from Mahem, NYC

blog_20_july_2014

I can clearly recall THAT fateful day on 9/11, as we were living in Delaware at the time and for a while,  it was thought that our part of the world would be a target too.  All the schools and public buildings were evacuated and I can distinctly remember the scramble to collect the boys and wonder fearfully about what might come…. and although our TV’s worked, there was literally no other method of communication that did – and it was, all in all, pretty scary.

Visiting the 9/11 Memorial Park today was  both amazing and very disturbing.  The environment is wonderful and the scale and complexity of the architectural construction of the memorial is nothing short of tremendous and does great honor to those who lost their lives and represents the events in particular detail.

The interior of the Museum is mindboggling no doubt, but it’s the outdoor pools, with the sunlight and water and shimmer off the new Freedom Tower, hovering above, that pay the finer tribute to my mind.

Terry Rowe - Haunting beauty, and elegant composition. The memorial is so appropriately done. I’m not sure I can visit the site, that day is still so seared into my being that I get emotional even thinking about it.

gotham girl aka Robin - Beautiful…Have you visited St. Paul’s Chapel since 9-11? I found it to be a way more emotional experience than the memorial site. THAT day will always be remembered…

joanne thieme huffman - My daughter has been, but I haven’t; definitely will whenever I can make it to NYC. Your picture of it is lovely.

Painting Bourbon Stree, New Orleans

blog_16_july_2014A few months ago I had the luxury of a few days in New Orleans with one of my favourite peeps, Miz Carla.  She and I and the lovely Miz Chloe dodged rain torrential showers and still managed to explore the wonderful City of NO and captured a good few snaps here and there.

Needless to say, Bourbon Street was amazing, the color, the people and the music…..

Definitely worth a painterly tribute…..

joanne thieme huffman - It looks bright anf happy; I can see the music.
