A little English – “countryside”!

blog_16_oct_2014The first day for ages that I have not had to “think” about much – pack a suitcase, travel hither or thither, write a teaching proposal or be “en-pointe” to teach…..

I’ve trolled through images from Morocco, Venice, Iceland and various model shoots…. and finally settled upon this pastoral scene to play with –  shot at Lacock Abbey whilst sharing a pleasant afternoon with my Aunt, before heading to Luton Airport to get to Iceland.  Very Constable’ish in my mind and I hope the painterly rendering does that notion some justice…..

(Painted solely in Photoshop, for those of you who are interested!)

Joanne Thieme Huffman - Lovely!

Cam Miller - Lone trees are one of my favorite subjects. This is beautiful. My next project will be painted in Photoshop, to practice those techniques. Thanks for being such an inspiration!

Painting Magic Workshop – Charlotte NC

blog_14_octb_2014Karen Burns and I have just finished teaching a three day workshop in my Studio here in NC.  We hosted eleven students and worked on creating digitally painted images using both Corel Painter and Photoshop.  We had a great bunch of students who as well as soaking up the learning and project material, managed to create some amazing painterly work.

We are both exhausted and JAZZED, as are, I think are our Students.  They arrived from far flung destinations including Maryland, Virginia, Seattle, Dallas, Ohio and I’m sure I am missing some….

Our thanks go out to a very great bunch of attentive learners and prolific painters……

The image above was one of my final sample demos in how to use both Corel and Photoshop to create a painterly image……in about as much time as it takes to drink a glass of wine….. (in joke, sorry!)………

Thanks to you all… and see some of you for our next workshop in Pacific Grove, CA in February – which is almost sold out!

joanne thieme huffman - I really wish I could have done this. I love this and the work of your students that you posted on FaceBook.

Hallgrímskirkja – Iceland

Back tracking a little… to the first day I arrived in Iceland.  It was cold, rainy and after a quick lunch we stopped off at Hallgrímskirkja – a wonderful piece of architecture indeed.

blog_09_octa_2014

Taking photographs of the outside was a bit hit and miss, you had to time it right to avoid the bus loads of Japanese Tourists that seemed to persistently pepper the forecourt, but the exterior of the building was amazing as was the interior of the Cathedral…. it’s vaulted ceiling and wonderful light lending itself to some great pictures and plenty of fodder for creative play!

gotham girl - Your art work is just amazing! More please!!

joanne thieme huffman - Love the interplay of light and structure in the vaulted ceiling photo. The building is amazing (have to agree with the thought that it would look less stark and imposing with a bunch of tourists milling around).

Living Art America – Greensboro

A happenstance roadtrip today to Greensboro, NC saw DH and I blessed with Press Passes to attend the Living Art America Body Painting Event hosted by Arts Greensboro’s 17 days event.

What a wonder of eye candy.  We had the chance to wander around the event as the models were painted, followed by the opportunity to shoot them sans crowd once all the painting was finished and then enjoyed the runway view ….

I must say that after my first experience at shooting “runway” my hat comes off to #2 son who does this kind of thing all the time for fashion …. it’s no mean feat to snap a good runway shot, maybe 1 out of 100 that turn out well….

Still there were some good moments to be saved and savoured!

blog_28_sept_2014I’m pretty pleased with how some of the shots worked out given that I neglected to pack my flash and just had to make the camera do all the work, ramping up the ISO settings and playing a bit with the post processing.

The first model was painted by one of the Living Art America judges and I don’t know her name.
The second model was painted by Amber Michael of NC, Model Victoria Singleton.
The third model was painted by Stepahnie Anderson of Georgia, Model Mark Seraphin
And the Dr Who girl was painted by Alisia Silliman of Colorado, Model Elizabeth Rose Poller – who doesn’t love a Tardis in the middle of their belly and a few Darleks hanging around their ankles??  Awesome stuff!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - What a great event! I love the shots you’ve posted – beautiful models, skilled and artistic painting, and fun!

One Ice “burger” or a few… from Iceland

blog_22_sept_2014Time in Iceland is drawing to a close.  Long days of shooting and a variety of fun adventures lately including riding around a Glacial Lagoon in a Zodiac, hiking across a Glacier and peeking at Seals as they duck an dive amongst the Icebergs.

The Icebergs are fascinating things, with lives of their own, constantly moving and melting and morphing into different shapes before your eyes.

Not much internet the last few days, hence so few postings and not much time to work on pix either… sleep has been more important, so I shall play a bit of catch up when I get back to Charlotte on Tuesday….

And finally, a big shout out to my #2 Son for his 21st Birthday….. love you darling ttys xoxoxox

Ciao for now…..

Terry - love the ice!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - Such variation of ice! Great photos.

Cindy Trobaugh - wonderful pictures. I have never been there and have always wanted to go.

Robin aka Gotham Girl - Amazing!!!
