Ljubljana, Slovenia

blog_11_oct_2013

I arrived in Ljubljana this afternoon.  A record 7 minutes to get off the plane and into the taxi, collecting bags and all.  What a rare treat.

My hotel is in the old city, cobbled streets and paths that line the river, very very picturesque indeed.  Despite being rainy and overcast, some decent shots were to be had in the afternoon and then in the evening, once the lights were one I took a bunch of night shots, perching my camera on various bridge edges as I had not bothered to unpack my tripod.

Turns out that the hotel that I am staying in is owned by a Slovenian and his Australian wife, who just happens to come from Perth!  Who’d of imagined that!  They treated me to some rare hospitality and invited me to a local wine tasting being held at the hotel, which went down very well – of course!!

Another early start tomorrow to meet up with the rest of my mountaineering group.  A few hours sleep would be good, just seems to be thwarted by the merrymaking going on in the pub next door which is doing a bang up job of overcoming the double glazing!!

Ciao for now ……  zzzzzzzz

Joanne Thieme Huffman - Great shots. I particularly love the night picture.

gotham girl - Oh my! Thank you for sharing a part of the world that I know nothing about! So picturesque! Reminds me of the waterways of Amsterdam.

Walkabout Wonders in Germany

One of the things that I love most about visiting my Mother here in Germany is the wealth of opportunities to go for long long walks and the glorious scenery and eye candy that abounds.

These girls and their new children were quite curious about the dog (which I borrow from Mum for walking)… not sure whether to stay or flee, having a good stare before continuing on with their afternoon munching…

Later in the afternoon we went foraging for moss and sticks in the forrest – so that some Holiday decorating could be started.

Although the trees have not yet started to change colors, the gem like feel of the woods was lovely – and I happened upon some real eye candy along the way – loads of Toadstools, in lots of shapes and colors – a few of which will no doubt have some fairies perched upon them at some point in the not too distant future …..!

Tomorrow, bright and early I leave for Slovenia, where I am going to climb some mountains and hopefully get some nice landscape images of lovely light, mist and what not – stay tuned!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - I am totally enchanted by the toadstool images; I look forward to you adding your magic to them.

gotham girl - Oh how you are adding the reasons for a visit to Germany one day! Beautiful!

Flowers That Bring Good

I’ve spied this field of Sunflowers a few times I have visited hereabouts ….. and this time I managed to hike up the hill and tramp through a good few pastures to reach the “Pot of Gold”!!

The Sunflowers are still in bloom, although the other flowers are finished.

They are there to pick your own and honesty is a must…… for according to the sign, only paid flowers bring good …..

I rather like that way of discouraging non-paying customers!!!!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - I love fields of sunflowers. And, I love the take some and leave your money idea – years ago, I used to buy vegetables that way in the Berkshires.

European Color

blog_7_oct_2013I arrived in Germany yesterday, a little sleep deprived as you leave from Charlotte in the late afternoon, which is rather too early to be going to bed, still getting here bright and early at 7am!

After a hazy, grey and chilly start to the day, the time spent walking Mum’s dog this afternoon paid off with a little more light and the makings of a “Constable-ish” pastoral scene snapped from the top of my favorite hill.

The colors have not quite changed yet here, but you can tell that they are trying!

gotham girl - Love the painterly look of this beautiful scene! Enjoy and can’t wait to see more!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - A lovely pastoral view. Enjoy your time in Germany.

Life Lakely V7

blog-4Oct2013

I have been busy the last few days squiring around visitors from Australia.  My Sister and her hubby in fact.  I have not seen her since my visit to Australia in June and it’s been several years since she last popped by to visit us in the US so it was good to catch up.

We did the Charlotte City Center thing and squeezed in a visit to  the NASCAR Hall of Fame which turned out to be a surprisingly FUN experience.  I got to drive my very own race car (simulator of course) and beat the rellies and the hubby, scooting around the course at 170mph!  What a rush!

Their uber early departure for the airport afforded me a less than frequently seen vista of the lake – the SUNRISE version…… with the lake so still and quiet it was like a mirror pond. (Note to self to try getting up a little earlier a little more often!)

AND, Thanks to everyone who have left comments, FB notes and sent emails recently – my apologies for not being so hot at responding, but it’s been a bit hectic around here and on Saturday I  head off and about for points distant again so I have been getting ready for that.  Stay tuned for some pics from different places 🙂

gotham girl - awe-striking!

Chris - This is an amazing photo.
So glad you’re getting Aussie visitors!

I’m the worst at staying in touch.
But think of you often.
