Postcards From Switzerland

Well, old and new place visited hereabouts, including a trip back down memory lane to Sierre and Crans Montana.  Many changes have been wrought since I lived here – not surprisingly I guess, but my memories of vast mountain meadows and quaint mountain top cafes have been overtaken by progress and population.  Fortunately the mountains remain as vivid and grand as ever.

Thankfully the passage of time has done little to change the landscape or feel of Gruyere, where the Medieval town remains as always and still sports delicious food, including the timeless Meringues Glace avec Framboise et Creme – to DIE for!

We capped the day off with a 2 hour cruise around Lake Geneva, catching the last rays of the sun as we strolled along the promenade before stopping at Harry’s Bar to enjoy a bite to eat and listen to some live music – a grand farewell to a lovely city.

Pointing north to Strasbourg tomorrow!
(and sorry about the typo in the caption above, but it’s late and too tired to fix it!)

Alison - Memory lane can be a great walk, glad it all hasn’t changed too much

Turning Back The Hands of (Swiss) Time

blog_16_oct_2013

DH arrived to meet me in Frankfurt this morning where I had finally managed to cadge a good 8 hours of kip following my adventures in Slovenia.  From there we grabbed a hire car and motored down the freeways to arrive in Montreux, Switzerland where we will spend a few days enjoying the scenery and visiting some of my old haunts.

It’s been nearly 30 years since I have been back to this idyllic part of the world where I spent the better part of 2 years working at the hospital of the  small nearby town of Sierre.

Tomorrow we will take the car and head up to the mountains and vineyards, but for this evening we simply strolled along the shores of Lake Geneva, soaked in the scenery and ate an absolutely stellar meal at the Montreux Palace Brasserie.

The boardwalk along the Lake has undergone major changes since I last walked it (not surprisingly) and now boasts many fabulous architectural changes as well as the addition of a fabulous array of sculptured works.

The symmetry of this neat swimming platform rather caught my eye with it’s leading lines into the lake and the serendipitous advent of the couple sipping their beers to watch the setting sun – and shaking the balance of the image nicely!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - Very nice photo – and it expands my visual idea of Switzerland.

Bren - I’m thinking you are right at home in many parts of the world! Looking forward to the photos and updates, the view from your lens is always inspired.

gotham girl - Love the leading lines. Fabulous capture!

Leslie J. Moran - This is so wonderful. We lived in Nyon just outside of Geneva for 4 years. Indeed our daughter was born in Geneva. We did a lot of tripping in the area and these photos are a wonderful reminder. My how things have changed. Thanks for the memories! Lovely job.

More Mountains and Blue from Slovenia

blog_15_oct_2013

I’m hanging out at the airport in Ljubljana getting ready to head back to Frankfurt now that my landscape adventures in Slovenia have come to a close.  I’ve amassed a nice collection of mountains, mist and lake images to add to my portfolio and have thoroughly enjoyed the past few days, well apart from the one when it rained cats and dogs!  It’s hard to describe the majesty of this part of the world and at some point when I can do some proper editing I hope that my pictures will do the scenery justice.

Since I am rather running on empty, having had little more than three hours sleep (again), I am looking forward to a good long snooze in a comfy bed when I get back to Germany in a few hours time!

Ciao for now…..

joanne thieme huffman - What a stunning array of photos you must have from this trip.

Vicki in Michigan - THank you for taking us along! What gorgeous scenery you have captured and shared! Wow.

Uber tired and another 4:30am rise in a few short hours, so just a quick snap from today’s adventures.

Pretty well SOOC with just a little cropping to remove the lens vignetting.  It’s so so pretty here, the scenery is amazing!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ……………….

gotham girl - Breathtaking! Enjoy!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - What an incredible mirror lake. Great picture.

Bren - Absolute perfection! No other words for it!
