A Little Fall Delight – Lake Norman, NC

blog_09_nov_2014Out and about today enjoying the Autumn light during a bit of a hike around Lake Norman State Park.  Of course had left the tripod at home, just when you need it… but that’s pretty normal, so had to make to with the odd tree trunk and bridge rail to balance the camera for a few longer exposures.  A lot of the trees have lost their leaves all together thanks to quite a few windy days recently, but in certain spots there’s still some good color to be had, especially lower down in the Piedmont.

Alison - Love the colour. OXOX M

Joanne Thieme Huffman - Beautiful fall colors. It’s way past it’s peak here now, lots of bare trees and piles of leaves on the ground.

Naked Beauty (Not PG)

blog_08_nov_2014There’s many who don’t understand my penchant for photographing the “nude”… at 50 something plus it might be construed as odd.  However most of my “professional life” was spent with naked people – in all shapes and forms – editing, ie, cutting and pasting in a surgical environment.  To have the opportunity to photograph that which is not at peril is now a joy and one which I celebrate when I can.

To that end, I have decided to publish a book of my Fine Art Nudes.

I’ve been hunting for a Project of late that really “floats my boat” and I think this will be it.

There’s enough in my portfolio that should hit the mark but in the next month or so if I can add a few new “bodies/shapes/forms” that would be great……..

So we will  see…. keep your eye peeled for March 2015!

Joanne Thieme Huffman - It sounds like an interesting project. Good for you!

Robin aka gotham girl - Wonderful!

Sharmon Davidson - That seems like a wonderful idea for a project to me! This photo is exquisite! Good luck!

bob towery - Go Marie! Can’t wait to see your vision realized!

Alison - great news.No sutures on these beautiful bodies.Anyone that disapproves is jealous.OXOX M

Breaking the Rules, Iceland 2014

I’m back to editing the many many images shot during my recent trip to Iceland and strangely enough, the image below is one of my favourites – crossing all the boundaries of camera correctness – where lens hoods, ND filters and all manner of techie geekedness is supposed to be applied to prevent the dreaded LENS FLARE!….

However, I LOVE the serendipity of what happened in camera … one sun obviously… but the lens made two…. (NO PHOTOSHOPPERY I PROMISE!) … and terrific reflections (if a tad blown out) across the water.. and that awesome amber flare around it all.

So no, not technically correct and my cohorts at the time kind of wiggled their eyebrows as if to say… what the heck are you doing…. but sometimes you gotta just go with it and take the picture that suits you!

And FYI…. I was up at 4:30am to get this shot at Jökulsárlón – Sunrise taken looking towards the sea behind the Glacier Lake.  I think I was the only one in my group who actually looked in the less than obvious direction! Ha!
