Museums and Art

With #2 son here and a few days away from the work grind for DH we have been exploring museums and tripping here and there to catch some Artsy eye candy.

The Bechtler Museum in Charlotte proved to be a bit of a disappointment.  For the size of the building and all it’s grandeur there was not much of note to see and what should have been a good hour’s worth of viewing proved to be a 20 minute sprint to get in and out!  The most noteworthy thing I saw was the girl in the window – who was not part of the exhibit!

A trip to Asheville today proved to be far more satisfying.  No museums, but plenty of gallery offerings, one of which was the best I have seen in years and would give many of the large museums a run for their money.  I snapped a few pics while inside and have taken the liberty of  “fiddling” with one of the images I shot.  I’d gladly attribute the artist who created this fantastic art doll, if only I knew the name.  It seemed to be the one piece sans, ticket or price tag.  She stood nearly 3 ft tall and was absolutely gorgeous – and would have definitely have come home with me if I could have afforded her.

For now I’ll leave you with the Lady and Her Bird (my caption) …….

(I apologise in advance if I offend the artist by taking some creative license with their work and if anyone knows who might have created the sculpture then I will gladly append the appropriate details.)

Author’s Note: It seems that the doll artist in question might be Akira Blount, deceased in 2013.

Lucy Smith - Looks to me the artist is Akira Blount. A wonderful doll maker.

Susan - hi, I love what you have made. The Original “doll sculpture ” is totally amazing! Do you sell your adaptations of others art, or is it just for you? In looking at the picture of the Art Gallery, it would be a fun one to go to. Thank you Susan
